چکیده
The threat posed by the influenza A (H1N1) respiratory infections epidemic has triggered a worldwide response that has been felt in practically all aspects of respiratory medicine. The study of antiinflammatory treatments in lung injuries or of extracorporeal gas exchange techniques, tested during the epidemic, extends beyond the viral infection itself, with an impact upon the entire spectrum of acute lung injuries (ALIs). The knowledge generated is moreover common to multiple aspects of lung injury, not only to that referred to H1N1 virus infection. The present number of Medicina Intensiva publishes the special article of the SEMICYUC, offering an update on the management protocol for patients with severe H1N1 infection, and the January issue contains the study of Nin et al., documenting both the presence of viral antigens and the activity of different pathogenic mechanisms in lung tissue samples from patients who have died of H1N1 infection. The findings of this work illustrate not only different aspects of the viral infection, but also of acute lung injury. Regarding the contributions of the work of Nin et al. to our knowledge of influenza A (H1N1) infection,

Host Response Comparison of H1N1- and H5N1-Infected Mice Identifies Two Potential Death Mechanisms
Highly pathogenic influenza A viruses (IAV) infections represent a serious threat to humans due to their considerable morbidity and mortality capacities. A good understanding of the molecular mechanisms responsible for the acute lung injury observed during this kind of infection is essential to design adapted therapies. In the current study, using an unbiased transcriptomic approach, we compare...
متن کاملAcute Respiratory Distress Syndrome Induced by a Swine 2009 H1N1 Variant in Mice
BACKGROUND Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) induced by pandemic 2009 H1N1 influenza virus has been widely reported and was considered the main cause of death in critically ill patients with 2009 H1N1 infection. However, no animal model has been developed for ARDS caused by infection with 2009 H1N1 virus. Here, we present a mouse model of ARDS induced by 2009 H1N1 virus. METHODOLOGY ...
متن کاملیافتههای دموگرافیک و پاراکلینیکی بیماران مبتلا به آنفلوانزای H1N1 نو پدید بستری در بخش عفونی بیمارستان سینای تبریز
Background and Objective: Novel H1N1 influenza virus is a unique type of influenza virus which has developed due to abrupt structural alterations (Shift and Drift). This virus can lead to a pandemic disease. Since manifestations and severity of this disease may be affected by environmental, cultural and economic factors, therefore this epidemiological and regional study was carried out to revea...
متن کاملCharacterization of the 2009 Pandemic A/Beijing/501/2009 H1N1 Influenza Strain in Human Airway Epithelial Cells and Ferrets
BACKGROUND A novel 2009 swine-origin influenza A H1N1 virus (S-OIV H1N1) has been transmitted among humans worldwide. However, the pathogenesis of this virus in human airway epithelial cells and mammals is not well understood. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDING In this study, we showed that a 2009 A (H1N1) influenza virus strain, A/Beijing/501/2009, isolated from a human patient, caused typical in...
متن کاملTime-dependent changes of autophagy and apoptosis in lipopolysaccharide-induced rat acute lung injury
Objective(s): Abnormal lung cell death including autophagy and apoptosis is the central feature in acute lung injury (ALI). To identify the cellular mechanisms and the chronology by which different types of lung cell death are activated during lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ALI, we decided to evaluate autophagy (by LC3-II and autophagosome) and apoptosis (by caspase-3) at different time point...
